Yeah, my first love of hunting was the gray sq. lots of fun getting up early with my older brothers and getting droped off by Dad at the end of a corn field in Lawrence Co.

Then came Deer hunting! Well whats to say? Love it!

Now im in Love again, with howling out at the wild dogs of the dark forrest and listning for a sign of any response. Yep IM IN LOVE WITH YOTE HUNTING, there I said it!!

Anyone else like sneaking out the garage door at 2:00, 3:00 am and riding around your favorite deer woods blowing a locator call or playing the ole siren. Then setting up and bringing one in on a trot until he in the crosshairs of my Remington model 788 in 22-250. light bark, he stops and you pull the triggle. aaaah.......... LOVE IT.

You do realize it is ILLEGAL to hunt coyotes at night?

A lot of yote hunters locate packs of yotes at night and set up on tem at first light. I believe that is what he meant. Yours odds are always better if u know they were their a couple hours ago. Common practice

You might want to check the legal definition of hunting. If a person is riding around at night with a rifle and is using calls to locate coyotes they technically are hunting during closed hours.

so it is also illegal to use locator calls for turkeys before daylight?

If you are doing it more than one half hour before legal sunrise, then technically it is illegal. I haven't seen too many turkey hunters "owling" while it is black dark. Most are doing it during legal hunting hours.

interesting. i have seen/heard A LOT of owling and other calls well before legal light.

come on people, laws laws laws. so if i leave the truck and head out for a deer stand a mile back in the woods, "for which i sometimes do" im hunting before legal light?

Im locate riding before legal light. nothing at all against the law! call your game officals and ask them. riding around with a rifle in a case in the back seat of my truck at night is not against the law. neither is playing sounds.

Ditto If anyone on here knows it I would say it would be him!

I just had a thought...I sometimes pause and make a "low" grunt, as I'm walking to my stand. This is done to "calm" a deer (in my mind) that might be close by and would maybe be spook'd otherwise, it's not done to attract a deer, since it's usually dark anyway.

Would you consider this action as "hunting", if done before legal shooting time?

Check the legal definition of hunting and I think you will agree it meets that definition. With that being said, I doubt there would be much prosecuteable appeal to pursue such a case.

Laws, Laws, Laws,= Yup!

Uh-Oh. I may be in deep doo-doo.

I've already admitted many times on other threads what I consider to be my best "deer call". And I've been known to do this before legal shooting time, never realizing I might be doing something wrong.

Also, sometimes when walking in, before legal shooting time, I stop to pee in a scrape. I've had deer hear the splattering and come running up. Is that technically illegal hunting?

What if I hide the rifle behind a bush and come back 30 min before daylight and then put it back in my truck to go hunt them yotes.....Is it still hunting before legal light if I dont have a gun?
