first ground hunt

So this is my first season hunting and I got htnseymour showing me the ropes. We've mostly been hunting the cornfield on my property but we decided to change it up since the only thing we've seen there recently is a button buck (really frustrating since we saw a 10-12 there during muzzleloader but alas to far out for bow). So I go sit at the base of a tree looking into this valley. Aside from being in the middle of a squirrel turf war it was pretty uneventful. That is until about 30 minutes before sundown. I hear a crash from the other side of the valley and see the squirrels go hide in their trees. It was loud,so I'm thinking " O my,a bear, and I'm on the ground, great. at least I have a rifle" but I keep my composure and keep scanning to see what this crash is as it keeps going. Well, what do you know, a doe and a yearling ( at least I think I'm not good at aging by sight yet, anyways bigger doe and littler doe)are crashing down the steepest part of the valley, I'm talking like 45 degree steep (exaggeration I'm sure) so I think "well from what I've been told deer take the path of least resistance so they have to be coming down there for a reason, keep sharp this is the day!" They get to the bottom of the valley and look back up so I'm like "yes, there's a buck coming!" they head to my left a bit then cut back to my right 20 yards maybe in front of me sitting there on the ground. Got my eyes open and sure enough here comes a 6 pointer. my heart rate goes crazy and all that stuff that comes with your first non spike buck. He's moving nose on the ground through the valley from right to left, all good, that's where my best shots are, but wait he's got his back to me, I'm not gonna shoot him in the rear end ! Just not right! so I try the bleat thing htnseymour told me to do, nothin, I used my grunt call, nothin, hit rattle bag, nothin, I YELLED "STOP!" AT HIM (he was heading into thicker stuff and light was quickly fading, desperation set in), nothin.....never took his nose off the ground. So I'm still looking for that first non spike buck. But it was still a great experience and I'd do it again, but I might take that shot who knows.

I know what you mean... I've yelled HERE DEER.... HERE DEER.. several times in the woods and not once did they give a flip.

Seriously, at least you are seeing deer. Learn from each encounter.

Sorry for language all who got here before it was edited. Serious lapse in judgement on my part. Used to be a good little boy before I did motorcycle tech training, picked up a bad habbit that I'm still trying to shake. will definitely refrain from it on forum in the future. my bad
Also, I've gone through original post to make it make sense now. missing words can reek havoc on a story.

Lesson learned grasshopper, shoot it if you have a shot, the next shot may not come. Spine is better than nothing and if you had moved five yards when he didn't respond to you telling you could have had a great quartering shot

It may not be right to you but it's called a Texas heart shot. I've done one just to try it if ever needed in the future. Take it. It works like a charm.
