Went for a short creek walk on my place today just to get out.. Found this big scraper just about 150 yards from the house...

Are you sure? It just looks like a rock to me. Maybe that is why I never find anything.

Yep, its worked (flaked) on both sides all the way around. I've found of bunch of these.. This one is a nice size one.. most I've found are smaller...

Nice find. Definitely been flaked.

A lot of those finds are quarry blanks. The Old Guys would walk creeks that have good chert in the gravel bars, or that washes out of the creek banks, and they'd reduce the rock to where it was easier to transport. It was also done to check the quality of the stone as well.

Nice find! Is the bottom worked also? It looks like an adze with an angled bit.

I thought it might be a preform, blank, or something when I first picked it up. But it fits my hand perfect for cutting or scrapping... and only one way, it's not as smooth a fit in the hand if you hold it from different positions.. just one way fits perfect and it makes a sooth cut on that cheese. I feel it was a tool for sure, knife, scraper, both.. who knows, but it's an artifact.. and the black color is on both sides.. not sure if it is a fire mark or not..
