It's been a slow year for us in Alabama this year. Finally got one down Saturday evening. Had my son set up in a ground blind near a pinch point and of course had deer come in from behind and took us off guard. Son never saw him and I ended up taking the shot. Besides some unsuccessful hunting as a kid, I've only been deer hunting for the past 5 years and this was my first time to witness a buck chasing. Hope to get back after them on Thursday if I can get some all my work done before then.

I know the idea of culling bucks is debatable and I don't think killing this one will make much of a difference, but something genetic is apparently going on. Shot the buck on top January 2, 2018 and and the bottom one January 5, 2019, a few hundred yards from each other. The antler "grew that way" in both cases (not broken off).

Nothing wrong with the genetics of this one though and hope his hormones results in a trip to the processor.

Congrats! Most likely NOT genetic, but rather an injury to the pedicle from fighting.
