Well, I ended a tough season today hunting with a good friend and killed my first banded mallard green head. For sure the highlight of my season. Hope y'all finished strong as well.

Congrats. What color collar? White by chance/ If so, from the Tn. valley population probably. Lots around Old Hickory, or was at one time. Collars aren't as popular as they where at one time, people began shooting the colored collars with rifles. The purpose of the collars was so people, wildlife agencys, bird watchers could watch the geese, with spotting scopes, and they could read the codes on the collars, record the letters, and then see where that goose was banded and when. A neat way to track them. On Canadas, orange would be the true migrants from the Hudson Bay population if it hasn't changed. One other thing, you will never see a reward band on any goose that has a colored collar. Leg bands yes, but never a money band.
