Firing pin adjustment.........

I had to misfires this season form my Winchester 270.........very old gun and pretty worn out.......I sent the cartridges to Winchester and they told me that my firing pin was too light..........it doesn't misfire every time or even once in a while...just twice this season for some reason........should I get a gunsmith to do this or can I do this myself in your opinion?

Any help out there?

I`d change the spring and the pin,,pretty simple with the right tools,

Be sure and clean it good before you start changing parts. Lots of times it's only gunk inside the bolt that's causing the light firing pin strike especially in cold weather. Take the bolt apart and clean everything with brake cleaner or some other cleaner such as the Birchwood Casey Cleaner Degreaser. Then I like to use only a coating of the Remington Teflon lube for the inside of the bolt since it dries and doesn't attract dirt. If you use oil use only a very light coat of a thin oil or some people just run them dry. Then if that doesn't work you can start thinking about getting a new firing pin spring.
