I headed out this morning for a short hunt since I needed to help a buddy track a buck that he had shot yesterday evening and couldn't find. I ended up going to a place with low deer density just because it was closer to where I would need to drive to in order to help track. I knew deer were moving good because I saw two fork horns and a doe from the stand. It's rare to even see a deer in that place, you see more bears and hogs than deer these days.I got down about 830, started to walk out, and ran into this guy about halfway out. He was locked down with a doe in a tree top on a bench about 75 yards over the side of the mountain. I wasn't sure if he was bigger than bucks that I've been passing but I decided to shoot. I'm glad I got the deer as I start traveling for work soon and won't be around for a bit. This was my first deer with an AR rifle. For the gun guys, 350 legend was the caliber. 150 grain Deer Season XP. I know several have been wondering about that caliber and bullet choices. I'll be totally honest, after shooting this deer, I will try some other bullets. I hit it right behind the front shoulder in the heart. The deer didn't go far at all but when I inspected, the bullet had basically blown up in the heart/lungs. There wasnt even a piece of bullet lodged in the offside ribs or shoulder. No major bone was hit. I prefer more penetration than that in case I do shoot through some major bone or a different angle.

Congrats again. It takes a lot of dedication to keep killing mature bucks in a low density location and you do it year after year.

Thanks for sharing the story.

Did you ever find your buddy's deer?

Thanks for the input on the Bullet..
Could have been a fluke ..But from understanding that's what those are supposed to do.. Have some in 06 n Legend but no targets yet..

Also why I hate the Swift Scircco never tried the newer version.
