Last hunt of the year for me was Michigan. I went up to the Northern Lower Peninsula to hunt public land and arrived yesterday around noon. I spent the time yesterday just trying to learn the area by road. This morning, I went into a swamp with some ridges around and didn't hear or see a thing. Around 8 I went and packed up camp and headed to the southern part of the unit that my tag was good for. It had gotten cloudy, 30 mph wind, and some light rain so I spent time just learning new area from the roads. Around 11, the weather broke, so I started walking some smaller patches of public interspersed with private ag. On the 3rd spot, I saw a gobbler out strutting with hens in a log landing. I circled around to the backside where I thought they may go and sat down around 150 yards away. I yelped a few times and saw the hens coming within minutes but it ended up taking maybe an hour for the hens and gobbler to work in within range. He was just strutting and spitting and drumming back and forth without really moving much but slowly getting there. Never did hear a gobble in Michigan but I am so blessed to have gotten to hunt 3 new states this year. That'll do it for my season.
