I'm starting to get concerned. Deer heards certainly fluctuate and the lease I hunt on in Hickman county has had a couple down years. Harvest numbers have decreased and total deer density is down, like by roughly 50% based on sightings and cameras. I've heard the same thing from lots of other hunters and many on this forum so I didn't worry to much about it. I noticed a few months ago that the deer sign seemed even lower. I found two dead deer this weekend one was a small 8 point other a doe neither had been shot and are in the interior part of the property (800 acres). Neither deer looked to be "skin and bones" from an outer appearance looked to be in good health. I have never seen a deer that had the CWD look but I'm beginning to wonder because something is not right. Does anyone know how fresh a deer has to be to get it tested? These were both a little rank and not sure anyone would want to mess with them for testing.
 
Good chance it is EHD/hemorrhagic disease. This is the time of year for it and deer succumb rather quickly to it so they won't appear 'sicky' or 'wore down'. There is mortality from EHD every year.
 
EHD takes a few deer every year. Could have been a couple bad years for it in your area. Usually the hooves will be jacked up.

I hunt in Hickman as well and heard over the weekend that folks were finding a lot of dead deer in creeks and around rivers - EHD seems to be bad
 
My neighbor said he talked to someone he knows in Dickson Co who has found 7 dead on their farm this year. They told him TWRA was testing the last one but thought it was probably EHD.
