Well it's been a bit of a long season for me, but it finally paid off last night. After passing on some does during bow and early rifle I took a shot at decent buck in November and missed. After that, sightings pretty much just dropped off at our place. Little to nothing on camera, no one seeing any movement, and nothing to really draw them in since we are in Hardeman and can't put out minerals and the fields didn't get planted this year. I have always had a habit of getting down from the shoot house with a few minutes of light to spare as I head back to the truck. Not sure why, maybe it's just defeat setting in when I'm not seeing deer in the fields in that twilight period, I don't know. However, I have killed two deer in previous years by doing so. Last night I got down with about 10 minutes or so to spare and as I was walking to the truck I caught movement in the treeline about 50 yards or so away. I stopped, knelt down on the edge of the grass in the field and saw this guy standing there. I managed to get the gun up and bang, flop through and through with the .308. I have killed two 8 points in previous years, but I think this may be my best buck as far as antler size, spread and weight (he was heavy). Very thankful and grateful for this one. Plan on getting him done as a euro mount.

Thanks! Yeah it was a first for me lol All the others have been rested from a stand, shoot house, or the ground. This one was a "seize the moment" sort of shot.

In the future I would set an alarm on vibrate on your watch or phone for the end of legal shooting time. Force yourself to sit until the alarm goes off. Some of the best magic happens in the last few minutes of legal shooting time!
 
I think I'd keep heading for the truck a few minutes before legal light ends - it's working for you! Congratulations! I love those big 6 points. It's always fun to see peoples face when you tell them you shot a 6 point and then the see the picture is not at all what they imagined when they see the size of the rack.

Also glad you got a Bang Flop being that it was last light. That's my favorite time of day to hunt but least favorite time to kill because of having to track in the dark.
