Well, after a handful of seasons in my teen years and 2 seasons in my adult years, I'm finally on the board this year! Just before 8 Saturday I saw 4 does running, the last one stopped and down she went. A few minutes later the button buck came back and stopped about 80 yards out and got him. Still can't believe I got my first deer and 2nd deer not 3 minutes apart.
This morning went a little differently, though. Saw two does come walking out and feeding. I shot the first one about 180 yards out and she went down hard and had trouble getting up. I went for a follow up shot and she got up and took off. I managed to see a good bit of blood on her, but couldn't get a second shot off fast enough. I looked back and her friend hadn't moved so I watched her for a minute and decided to go ahead and shoot to get meat for my in-laws as well. She went down at 200+ with a through and through lung shot and never got up. Waited about an hour and started tracking the first one with my buddy who had seen her come in by him across the field. Started off with a good trail, but it started getting less and less and we never found her. Searched three fields, the entire wood line, and never could pick up another trail or find her. I assume I hit shoulder? Hate that we couldn't find her and kinda puts a damper on what was turning out to be a great season.
Sorry for the ramble, but I've never been able to have a good story before so I wanted to share haha Being a 31 year old hunter who had never gotten a deer was starting to bug me! Hope everyone else had a great season!
