I finally got a good Northeast tn public land mountain 8pt. Every year I take a week off to hunt and have always went up in the mountains for a couple days knowing I'd probably not even see a deer but there's something about walking around in the big woods that calls me back every year. I went this morning not knowing there would be snow up top. I was slowly easing down a fire break on top of a ridge and spotted what turned out to be a log but then I seen a deers body from the neck back. It must have heard me because it stood like a statue for 5 minutes. It finally turned its head enough for me to see it had at least 8pts. I spent about 2 more minutes thinking about how I would get it out if I did shoot it. I figured I've put to many miles and over 30 years looking for a good buck on public to let it pass and pulled the trigger but he never flinched so I shot again and seen him jump and wheel around. He was dead in 20 but slid another 50yds. My first gutless method was a lil rough but I got him out in 3 trips to the truck. I'm gonna be sore in a lil bit but it was worth it. If it wasn't for the snow I would have never seen him.
