I haven't even fooled with hunting opening day around here the last couple years. Our lease is 3 hours away so we don't usually make the trip until the Friday or Saturday after thanksgiving. Told the 5 year old today we better start scouting because we may be hunting before we eat turkey next Thursday.

Been seeing and hearing some geese not sure about ducks yet but I'll keep my eyes out for sure.

The water we need for our lease continues to trend the wrong direction but maybe we'll get some precip this week. If not, this weekend will be a work weekend instead of a hunting weekend. Still better off than the last several years at this point so I'm holding out hope.

Any birds showed up for anyone that does have water yet?

Saw a fairly noticeable increase in numbers after last week's front. Mainly wood ducks before but the mallards and gadwal showed up. Hopefully, with the forecast they're giving now, we'll all see more.

Heard good numbers around West TN and we still got one more front to go...

Still been mostly warm this fall I don't think ice will be an issue. Skim ice at best.

Got the work done on the blind to make it huntable. Good to have that done.
Not many birds in west KY because the water situation but a few flocks of geese here and there.

I did finally see some Sandhills flying this afternoon. Big wad of a couple hundred doing their thing. They fly around down like they're drunk. Circle, circle, mix it up then V back up and fly a couple hundred yards before circling back up again

Decent opener in Mississippi especially for this early in the year. We are seeing more birds coming in everyday.

I've never hunted Old Hickory but used to work with a guy in Nashville (early 2000's) that hunted it regularly and supposedly killed lots of ducks there. Do the birds just not show up like they once did or is it something else?
It was still pretty decent in the early 2000s. It's gone downhill since then. Really doesn't get lights out here anymore unless we get a hard freeze. It's local and I go with my dad in his 70s. Else I'd go west.
