Food Plots Final bush hog & when to plant

I was wondering when I should do my final bush hog on my fields? Plus going to plant some throw & grow, plus beets. When should I do this?

ditch the throw and grow. get seed wheat, oats, or rye (grain) instead. deer do not prefer to eat ryegrass, and that makes up most of the seed in throw and grow. Are you going to skip spraying?

If you aren't going to spray or work the ground, and I recommend doing at least one , if not both, then wait until after you sow the seed to mow so the thatch will cover the seed and you will get better soil contact. If you are going this route, plant earlier (mid-late August) and try to get it sown and mowed right before rain.

Not going to spray it or work ground, most of ground is dirt but some needs a quick going over with mower.. I am having a lot of deer activity. It was over grown with wild blackberries & I have bushhogged it. Right now, I only have a couple of mineral blocks out close to my pond. This is my back up hunting if I am unable to score at Ft. Campbell.

Try a mix of winter rye grain and crimson clover. If you add turnips, go easy with them. Figure your square footage of the plot and put down pelletized lime as soon as possible. I usually figure one ton of lime per acre. So a 1/4 acre plot would be 500 lbs. Add some fertilizer at 200 pounds per acre when you plant. About 2-3 weeks after you see your plants growing, re-sow the thinner spots with more rye grain.
