I shot this buck several weeks back in an area with plenty of bucks. As soon as I saw him walking through the woods I noticed the scars on his back. As you can see he has one recently broken brow tine and another tine broken from sometime ago. My question is: are the scars on his back from fighting or from something else? I've never seen one this scarred up.

Looks like he was caught on a fence or something, never seen that. Were the scars scabbed over? I shot a buck this year that had scabbed scars on his neck but not like that on his back.

that is weird....you figure with hair removal like that their would be cuts or scrapes. I have never seen a deer scarred up from fighting, but you would think it would be around the head, neck, and front shoulder areas and not on the back.

Yeah could be a fence ducker. But, could be scars from fightin' too. I killed one last year that had a spot on his back right where it meets the neck that I couldn't cover with both hands. The spot was as smooth as a babys butt. He had one broke point and several scars on his face and neck.

He didn't have any scabs or open wounds on his back. His neck had a few small scratches and an ear was cut up a little.

Only one explanation for a buck's back to look like that - he's a flaming homo. Don't mount that buck (no pun intended), nothing good can come from having that specimen in your house.
