Anyone tracked a buck that grows fewer tines as he ages?

I've got pics of one that from a common characteristics perspective could very possibly be the same buck. Over the last 3 years of photos he has had as many as 11 points but now appears to be a monster 8. Wider, taller, more mass, great tine length, but just has fewer tines.

Anyone seen this?

It's pretty common for bucks to lose points as they age. I haven't witnessed it personally, but have seen some documented cases. One that sticks out is a buck the Wensel brothers watched that degenerated all the way back to a spike.

well once they get really old you see some junk, had an 8 point than was on us until he was 10.5 to 11.5, always and 8 until one year a 7 then he started picking up some trash

I can't ever recall following a particular buck over several years that went backwards as far as number of tines. The few that I speculated were the same buck have all been really old when the number of tines started declining, like 6.5+ by my best estimation. Again, several of these were speculation and it was just a handful of bucks over the last decade, so really don't have that many examples to pull from.

Post up some pics of the monster 8 you speak of.... :tu:
