Few Squirrels from last week

Yeah I get lucky occasionally and jerk the trigger at the right time...that was a good hunt, 3 shots 3 kills; but I certainly don't do that every time. I cooked these and a couple more up in a mulligan like I remember my Grandaddy making even before I was old enough to hunt. He had a mulligan shack with a wood stove and cooked squirrel mulligan while him and his friends and hunting buddies sat around telling tales and pulling on a jug of moonshine. I remember it was spicy hot almost too much for me then but of course that's the way I like it now.

Let's see-bought the rifle new in 1974 for about $65 at a going out of business sale. It was not squirrel rifle accurate by any means in stock configuration- I tried it. Went on to using good bolt rifles that were very accurate. In about 1994 I put a Volquartsen muzzle weighted barrel on it and it suddenly became extremely accurate but the trigger still handicapped it. In about 1995 I put a Jewel trigger in it and the rifle was now as accurate as any of my bolt rifles with an excellent trigger. So I used it as my primary squirrel rifle for about 20 years killing 100s. Just this year I figgered it deserved a quality exact headspace bolt so I put a Tandemcross in it along with a Kidd operating handle and a less 10% spring since I use subsonic for hunting. I can't really tell any difference with the new bolt as it shot so well anyway but I like it. That's pretty much it on the evolution of that rifle. You can see the Volquartsen barrel a little better here plus changed from the 2x7 Weaver rimfire to the 2x7 Nikon rimfire because the latter has a fast focus eyepiece which helps my aging eyes with changing light conditions.
