Feedback appreciated

My wife and I shot this 5 minute short "film" about hunting last year. It started out as a poem that I worked on and completed while on stand hunting here in Georgia. It was our first time attempting a project this immense and having our 2 small children with us during nearly every outing made it even more of a challenge. In hindsight, there are many things I would do differently today. Some of the clips would have coincided with the poem better could I have had the means to travel to wilder country. It was also my first time editing audio. Some have told me the poem is hard to hear in a few places. You can find it in the description if there's a certain line or word you can't make out. Anyways, I hope it resonates with some of you. Most of my videos are goofy and playful but this project came straight from my heart.

I appreciate you sharing it. Since the video isn't an actual hunting video, it's kind of hard for people to find it. So sharing helps it reach more people than any amount of likes or comments.
I'm really glad you enjoyed. Makes all the work we put into it feel even more worth it when I get feedback like that.

Man, I REALLY liked it!

I think what sells it is the pacing...it's slow and thoughtful, appropriate to the topic. You could have read the same poem at triple speed and it would have had much less effect, but interspersing the slide guitar riff and footage really emphasized certain points.

I experienced several feelings throughout the video:
- depression, because you are reminding me about something that I yearn for yet don't get to enjoy enough
- a sense of urgency, because I feel time slipping away and passing both in my own life, the lives of my aging parents, and those of my growing kids
- a poignancy of "days gone by", when I reveled in even the tiniest of adventures that involved the natural world
- resolve to do better, to begin writing thoughts down (I even got the journal I asked for at Christmas), and to invest in the lives of my kids

Thanks for spending some time making something of quality that conveys thoughts that we've had, consciously or not, about the passions that stir us back to nature.

I think that you might also have enough material here (in terms of poem length) to do a 2-line-per-page photo book, if you guys get into photography and want to market something in print for a coffee table or something. It would give you the chance to pick the "perfect shot" for each section of the poem. That said, you did a good job of getting some really good shots for most of it, even with the time crunch. Make sure you copyright things so that no one rips you off!!

I have mixed feelings about the speaking volume aspect...if it's too loud, it can sound intrusive. I was listening to it over speakers after my kids had gone to bed, so I had to keep the volume fairly low. As such, I missed a few lines and had to read through the lyrics in the notes below the video to figure out what you said. If listening at "full volume", I'd say it was marginally ok. I'm not sure how much you'd want to change it without messing with the "feel" of the video, because I like it being softly spoken...it reminds me of some cool thought-provoking movie monologues :)
