federal primers

Yep they do seem to have strange packaging. I always figured it was so when you opened then you dropped 5 or more and don't pick them up because you can't find them they roll all over. Its a more sales kind of thing.

But they still always go BANG. Never a failure.

TULA, Winchester, even CCI have had no bang.

These are for you new rifle, yes? 300 ought to do for a little while. Be interesting to see chrony results on a 120. We are loading 52 grains of IMR4350 behind 140 Accubonds and Partitions with plain old 210M's in our 280 no AI. For sure it is an accurate recipe in the T/C Venture.

The reason that Federal packages them that way is because they have the thinnest cups and are the most sensitive of the primers. They are more likely to go off due to a hard drop. It is also why Lee recommends that you not seat Federal primers with their old hand priming tool, and introduced the "elevator " on their new priming tool.

I'm considering switching over to Federal primers for my win 94 that has a somewhat light primer strike and provides an occasional failure to fire (1in 20 or so). The Federals will go off much more easily than the CCIs that I'm am currently using.

Yeah, I hate the packaging, but I understand why they do it...

Next time you are in Chatt town I'll swap a brick of CCIs for Federals if you'd like, DA. Shipping primers isn't worth it...

dave i actually used the 215m for you i know you love them

I think i had 4-500 laying around

the new 280 will get

162 amax
160 accubons
140 accubonds

it is at LRI getting cerekoted and engraved. with the 26.75 barrel i bet i could push the 120 real good

Yeah I have a few thousand of the 215's and each carton of 1,000 takes up nearly as much shelf space as a whole case (5000) of the old WW primers sitting beside them. But the Weatherby Magnums call for 215's so I keep them on hand. I still have a carton my 1st 215's came in and it was exactly the same size as all the other brands. This was bought in 1987 when I 1st got my 460. I'll admit that I've never tried any other brand of primer with that cartridge because the idea of a hang fire with it isn't something I want to experience.

Eric. I like the new big tray

I hate touching the primers
Most of the time I can shake it just right and 97 or 98 of them will be right side up
