Yup, yearling bucks will act like this for almost a month before the rut. But when the false rut hits in my area (and it doesn't happen every year), I will see a flurry of older bucks chasing does flat out across any opening, like a food plot or power-line right-of-way. However, this activity only lasts about 3-4 days, and then quiets back down until the real rut. Scraping activity explodes during this false rut as well.
On the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, I got picture after picture of 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year-old bucks chasing does through food plots on my place. Scrapes went from just a couple of half-heated ones to 20 or 30 big-time scrapes in traditional hotspots back in the woods, along ridge-lines and old skidder roads.
