Fall colors

Not really, just a crazy colored up red from WAY back in the skinny waters. Drain was so small I couldnt even turn my boat around in it... had to back out of the drain

20k winds kept me in the marsh all day. Too much wind to fish a jig, so I started on speck with a floating jerkbait in current breaks. Caught at least 50, a couple times had one on the front hook and 1 on the back hook. All were shorts except for 1 15in er. I was hoping a few big girls would have moved inside for the fall, bit I guess not quite yet.

Switched to sightfishing reds with a spinnerbait and everyone I found hit it... problem was, I didnt find many, and I covered a lot of skinny water. Ended up with 6 reds total, and kept 3 in the 19-20in range for a pasta dish with crawfish cream sauce im making tomorrow.

I havent gotten to fish in 3 weeks, so it was nice to get back out on the water.

Water hasn't gotten cold enough in the Gulf to push the trout back into the marsh in numbers. (At least in south Louisiana).

Nope, that winter pattern where trout seek deep holes to survive doesn't happen until water temps get below 60.

BUT, this time of the year just a moderate cold front can trigger a big white shrimp migration. That pulls the big girls in from the barrier islands and Chandeleur islands to the near bays to feed at the mouths of bayous as the shrimp ride the outgoing tide out of the marsh. When that happens, a few big girls usually wander into the marsh to pig out.

The best place to fish for specks right now are the nearshore reefs. But noone was going out to those exposed areas in 4ft seas yesterday!

No thanks. My balance isn't what it used to be and my back isn't either.

If you can find a levee spilling water- we kill the reds there. Just like creek fishing.

Use a 1/4 oz jig head and put a pogie on the hook. Cast into the current and walk it down

Moved back into the marsh and finally found a school of trout that had a few keepers in it. After the trout bite died down I went looking for reds, but I managed to spook every one I saw. Still caught 3 blind casting.

In total, around 45 trout (3 keepers), 3 reds, and 1 flounder.

No carb supper...Parmesean crusted redfish grilled on the half shell last night.

very very rarely... only when I need to keep a bait suspended just above rocks or other hang ups. I suspect over half of all the specks and reds caught down here are under a popping cork, I just don't enjoy that type of fishing. When I have someone who is inexperienced with me, I'll rig them up with a popping cork.

I'm pretty much just a topwater (because it's so dang fun!), jerkbait (to cover/ search a lot of water fast), and paddletail jig fisherman. I will branch out on occasion and fish a soft craw while sightfishing reds and spinnerbait when searching for reds in dirty shallow water, but that's about it.

Really good morning catching the end of the rising tide, but the day before a neap tide combined with the wind direction made the tide unchanged from 9a till I left at 3p.

Early morning I picked up 25 or so trout, 3 keepers. After the tide went slack, I only caught 4 or 5 more trout, all shorts. Water too high and dirty to sightfish reds today, but I still picked up 7 reds while targeting trout. 2 were rats, 3 were too big for me to keep.

Most stuff came on a jerkbait, but I did catch 1 keeper trout on topwater, and 2 reds on a jig.

Shrimp boats came in after a couple days of calmer seas. Picked up 15lbs of 16/20 count for $3 per lb.

Boiling shrimp and blue crabs to eat while watching football tomorrow!

I can only get out of the marsh on less than 1ft seas days. I'd sink my tiny microskiff in just 2 footers! I have about 5-6 inches of freeboard above the waterline... that makes for a boat that doesn't get blown around by wind, but doesn't leave you much room for rough seas!

You are doing it right! Leave the corks for the bay boats. I'd rather catch one good one in the marsh than 50 on a cork at the jetty.

Want to have some fun? Get a Baby -1 and pitch it in those marsh ponds when the visibility is poor. Its a rush to have a red wake up behind one before smashing it. The key is to get all the slack out of the line and keep your rod tip high, You want the plug pushing a wake right on the surface.

The gold chrome wakebaits are the bomb for reds... sometimes Acadamy puts their h20 xpress lures on sale for $2.99 each.... I have 5 or 6 of these, and they work well in shallow water if there is no grass
