The hornaday thread got my wheels to turning. What do you use and what do you think is best? I have been using the winchester power point 150 gr 30'06 for years. But the last 2 years I don't feel like they are expanding the way they used too. Could just be me tho
 
I use Federal Fusion......Never had a problem with them. I really think all factory ammunition that is made for deer hunting is very good. Just be sure that you don't get varmint type bullets or bullets designed for cape buffalo or grizzly bear.
 
150gr Powerpoints' s in my 3030 and 30-06 never let me down yet. Most are bang flops. Never had one go over 25 yds.
 
I reload, but my favorite factory fodder is actutally the bluish grey box federal- power shok I think
 
Used 150gr Hornady American Whitetail last year in my 308 with good results. Had a box of 180gr Winchester Super X and decided to use them this year. Can't tell a difference because I've yet to kill a deer this year.

165 gamekings by Australian Outback. 4 deer @ 300 yrds who didn't take a step. Consistent loads that shoot .75. Sure beat the hell outta Coreloks.

I like the NBT or SST's but here lately have been using the Nosler Accubond.
The NBT's tend to leave great blood trails though. :super:
Once my stock of NBT's are gone, Accubonds are what I'll use ..
 
Win power point 150gr 30-30 haven't used anything else yet and it blows a deadly hole in em every time. Lots of killing power

Well I started the Hornady thread so I haven't settled on .308 ammo yet although leaning to fusions over the American whitetails. Aside from that though I shot winchester ballistic silvertips out of my 7mm wsm. Those were extremely deadly. Never had a deer or pig even think about takin another step.
 
Western Super-X Power Point 180gr RNs in my Krag, "Christmas Tree" era 200gr Core-Lokts in the .35 Marlin 336, and 1960s vintage Remington 170gr Core-Lokts in the Remington Model 14.

The yellow box 30-40s are simply the best load I have ever found in 24-odd years of looking for my Krag, the vintage Remingtons are much better than their current product, and there is no new .30 Remington.
 
I use Weatherby nosler partition in all my Weatherbys as a rule. My daughter does also in her 257. In 308 I use several but usually wind up using a 168 Balck Hills HPBT in gold. In the second 308 I use a 175 HPBT in Sierra gameking and for longer range shot in the other 308 I use X Bullets.
 
Proper shot placement trumps brand of bullet every time. speed kills no matter if the bullet blows up inside or passes thru. i prefer mine to dump all of the energy inside. To many things happen in a hunting situation to always blame the bullet :pop:
 
There's a lot to be said for shot placement, but bullet selection is important, too. Too heavy of a bullet for a caliber can lead to poor terminal performance; 220s meant for elk or moose in a 30-06 won't expand properly in deer sized game due to the heavy jacket construction, and the 150 that makes deer DRT (Dead Right There) won't get to the vitals in a moose or elk.
 
Rem CorLokts here as well. The 150 gr sp's mushroom nicely looks like, from the one and only one I have ever retrieved from a deer.

Of all the factory ammo I've tried, I've experienced the most consistently good results for Rem Corelokts.
 
Only problem with CoreLokt bullets is Remington hasn't loaded them with round noses in .30-40 Krag cases in several decades.

Are you going to be shooting your new factory ammo in your new rifle. If you plan on shooting some long range with that new scope and rifle combo I would looking into something like Accubond. I'm sure you plan on some 400 yrd shots.

We have some spots a man could shoot 400 plus easy. But that's a stretch that I don't practice. 250-300 tops with the conditions right is what I'm comfortable with
 
I don't know about exspansion as far as the bullet goes but remington corloks have worked for me for years from one box to the other. Pull the trigger pull out the skinning knife!! :super:
