I have got a ?
What would be the best powder and load for a 290 gr bullet in a savage mz the ony powder I have is VV 110 at this time . Would this work?

I don't know about your first sentence, but appreciate the thought.

N110 will be fine to 44gr with the 290 Barnes (maybe 45gr if its cold).

H-4198 (70-72gr) will make speed (and recoil), but that may not interest you.

10x is another I liked with the heavier bullets. Going from memory, I think I took 10x (74-75gr) to 2,400 or so with good accuracy.

If you use any load data here or elsewhere, start a couple grains low and work up with a chronograph. Your sabot and a chrono will tell you everything-

43 gr N110 and a 290 were spraying groups today but after thinking back the sabots for those loads spent the summer in the garage so heat fatigue may have been a factor. I have some more sabots that were kept inside I will try tommorrow. Also trying 250 TC shockwaves ( non bonded) Thanks again

Hey man, I see you are getting her dialed in for MZ season. I am chiming in to tell you I have some IMR SR-4759 (.75 lbs) and you are welcome to as much of it as you like. That may or may not help you as I am new to this Savage craze, but I thought it was worth offering. If you want some of it, call my cell because the wife and I are headed to Gatlinburg Tuesday and will be gone til Sunday. Good luck with your MZ, I hope you get it all squared away.

30 -40 shots on the vent liner
After today i came back home and checked every thing.
Changed vent liner- drilled out breech plug - even put a differant scope on her -- got some 250 sst's I know it will shoot them ---runnin out of time and I got to get'r done

I know the feeling. I am switching scopes too. I've got a new scope sitting here(VX-3 w/CDS) and I'm waiting on mounts from Talley. Load work up is narrowed down to about 4 loads, hopefully my mounts show today and the rain and wind quit soon.

Normally when accuracy starts to degrade, you can about bank on it being your vent liner. I watched my vent liner go in 6 shots one day (that SHOULD have been a warning to me, but I did not know it at the time. I was shooting LilGun and pressure was too high). I have also had a some good load testing going and watched accuracy go downhill over the space of 10 shots. Again it was the vent liner. Put a new one in and back to where I was.

IMO, the SST is hard to beat. I shoot the 200 gr version and the 195 Barnes out of my .40 sabotless - the sst is always slightly more accurate.

You can't beat the Barnes for toughness though.

well. I kept them on the target today.Ran off and forgot my MMP sabots so I shot the ones that came with the bullets. The fit was way to loose but there was an improvement. I will get her straight on the next trip.
