Ever try to change a deer's travel pattern?

By using moth balls, or some sort of repellant?... I have a heavy traveled trail that is just on the property line & of course I cant hunt the other property... No one else hunts it, but I have learned to stay off the line a bit.... The neighbor is hard to talk to... Anyway, would a few mothballs & a slingshot be a good idea?... Hey, trying to think outside the box...lol

Just hunt in a spot a few times, his travel pattern will change to avoid that spot. :) Seriously we used to bushhog lanes for the deer to travel. Often they will travel a path of least resistence when practical.

I have known a person to walk through the adjoining property dropping them off to push more deer to their spot. It worked flawlessly I heard.

I have changed quite a few of their travels patterns using my .243. :D

Seriously though, one of my friends does this and he is pretty good at it. He will give them a reason to stop or a reason to take a certain path and he has been pretty sucessful in doing so. Of course it only changes the path they take, not the travel pattern.

That's surprising because I have a friend who swears by Ivory soap being scent free and he says he always uses it before hunting rather than buying the special deer hunters soaps.

Well, I can't think of any standard non-hunting commercial soap that is scent free now that you mention it. I doubt I could say the same about your "facts". :) It wouldn't cost much to try and I have a few ideas of funneling deer somewhat in certain places.

Promise you, it works. Just remember it has destroyed spots wherever you put it for a whole season.

For example. I was in on a lease 4yrs ago and arrowed a big buck. We saw deer in every stand. Members got jealous and gave me the boot. So the day when I went over to get all my stands I went down every holler and every ridge and dropped probably 30 off. They didn't kill another deer that season. They didn't even get a shot. One member whom was on it said everytime he hunted it he would hear deer coming and he would hear them blow and see their flags as they were running off. He said every stand was like that.

No.... But the hundred year oak that's bigger than a car might. Had one fall over this year, in the old grassy road that enters the bowl that I have been hunting in..... :mad: Good thing I pulled my trail cam out earlier this year or it would got crushed.

I use irish spring every morning before hitting the woods, doesn't seem to bother them. but then again when the wind is not blowing their direction doesn't matter how you smell lol. I believe any scented soap would work

I think it is how the soap rinses/dries that makes the difference in smell, as even the supposedly scent-free stuff that you buy for hunting has a scent "in the raw" before you use it. Ivory has no added perfumes or dyes, so when you bathe with it it does not leave behind that "cologne" smell like most soaps. I can imagine that bars of it could leave a scent for a long time because it does not dissolve quickly.

I have used Ivory soap for years for this reason as my go-to before hunting season, as the other hunting soaps could still be smelled on my skin 20 minutes after getting out of the shower but the Ivory could not. There is no soap that will keep you scent-free.

Cutting big trees will change their route, we have done this on a few occasions. Also can work as some bedding also.
