When a doe is in peak estrous does she bleed like a dog? My dog just came in heat and got me to thinking about this. But do bucks actually blood trail hot does? Reason I ask my male dog was following everywhere she had dripped around the yrd. Also what exactly is in estrous you by at hunting stores. Is it supposed to just be urine containing certain levels of estrogen? Or some other hormone?

Good question I don't know the answer to.

But do bucks actually blood trail hot does?

They are mainly identifying estrus does from reproductive system discharge. Estrus does urinate very frequently, but it has been shown that what identifies them as being in estrus is not in the urine. It is picked up in the urine as it is flowing from the body. In essence, it is not in the bladder but is picked up as the urine is being discharged from the body. Once a doe is identified as being in estrus, she is tracked by following her interdigital gland scent.

I would bet it is primarily cow pee. When you look at the volume of "doe in heat scent" sold across America every year, there are nowhere close to enough female deer in captivity to produce that much urine from only the 24-48 hours they are in estrus.
