Let me tell ya'll about last weekend. It has been 8 years since I have picked up a fly rod and decided to give it a go and boy was I rusty. The line had stiffened up and I had to work real hard to get things flowing. Kept breaking my wrist and kept trying to throw the dang thing and we all know that does not work. Someone said it's like riding a bike an I completely disagree. Much more painful. I got my casts to reach about 30 ft I guess. The location was the Caney Fork river. Sunday I caught well over 50 fish and probably more in the 70 to 80 range. I should have kept count because I don't know if I have ever caught that many before. Was a good mix of rainbows and brookies and even two dinky browns. Heck I caught 5 in back to back casts. The biggest of the day was a 14 inch rainbow. Monday was real windy and I ended up retying tippets a dozen times due to wind knots. "only" caught 18 fish that day. I accidentally lost my drivers license, and fishing licenses and about half dozen flys that were in a plastic bag. I dunked my iphone in the river and it's ruin. Got sunburned. Misplaced my wallet for about 2 hours. Even with all that it was one of the best trips I've ever taken. Dare I say epic! Saw a REAL big brown caught by a guy fishing right next to me using near samefly I was a size 18 midge. 23 1/2 inches and looked to be 8+ pounds. Later I saw a giant brown nail two stocker rainbows knocking them clean out of the water. That guy was over 25". Taught a newbie where to find and cast to the fish and he caught his first trout and on a fly at that and belive I have made a good friend out of it. My casts improved and was really able to let some line out when casting and even hit my mark on occasion. Well just wanted to share this.
