If I'm reading the proposed Proclemation correctly, you are right. They've done away with it and all they'll have is a Purple Heart Veterans hunt.

Does suck but glad the vets get to hunt it! Killed my first buck there when I was 14 a 8 pt and missed a giant also the first year they started back hunting it I got drawn and shot a really nice buck in the horn with my bow I was in a clear cut and only thing to climb was a telephone pole and they had trails all in it he came about 30 yds of me and when I got a chance to draw he just stopped and looked at me until I couldn't hold it any longer when I let it fly it hit the base of his horn and bounced back he ran off but I bet he had a bad head ache! Lol

Funny story. I bet he had a headache too lol. I'm also glad the vets get to hunt it. Won't see me arguing about. I don't even care if they got their purple heart bc they cut their finger on a bean can. They've done more for the country than I have

Guess all those protests they finally gave in. Only thing I can think because Ben Layton's report for the park estimated it at 90+ deer per square mile. That's why no giants have been killed on the hunts, but by all means let's cut another hunt tho.

So is Hickory Valley! Its nothing to drive through the park, around Volkswagon and surrounding area and see 30+ deer each evening

This will be great for the Vets who get to hunt. I wish them all well.

Sad that there are no more draw hunts. My first two bow kills (does) were on the VAAP and then two of my most memorable buck kills were there as well. I miss that place.

Never applied since it became Enterprise. :(

I took this off another thread I found that was locked:TWRA recommended that the archery quota hunt with 80 permits be eliminated and the quota for the Hunts for Warriors be reduced from 25 to 15 permits. This was done to reduce hunting pressure because data indicates the deer herd has fallen below carrying capacity. Sounds like the deer herd there has taken a pounding. Dude there are so many deer in that place and surrounding areas. You can drive through there any evening and see 15-20 deer every single time.

I work at VW (since 2011) and come in from 58 on hickory valley rd and discovery drive. I'll be honest, I have seen a pretty significant decline in the amount of deer I see around here since I first started. But, I do still see quite a bit of them.
