Some of you remember the Encore Pro-Hunter 45/70 Smokeless Conversion .45 muzzleloader that I recently had built for my 11 year old son. Unfortunately for him, he had school today, but his 9 year old little sister did not. She agreed to do a little live animal testing for me this morning......ummmm, it works. This doe weighed 154 lbs before field dressing. It was Landry's 1'st deer ever.

Yep, just thread a breech plug in the end, SMI charges $125, that's who did it for me. And it's smokeless.

What did this cost? Thats interesting, I told my wife the other day that i'd like to buy a smokeless muzzleloader before next season. Would any single shot 45/70 work?

What powder/bullet combo do you use? What do you do for a ramrod? I like my savage, but that looks a lot lighter and I already have a Prohunter so all I would need is the barrel and forend.

It is MUCH lighter, and shorter. It is a sweet gun for carrying in the woods or in a treestand. I've loaded this one up at 40 grains of N110, the .400 Hornady SST's, and the Harvester light blue sabots, it is very light recoiling for the kids, getting about 2300 fps with this set-up, little recoil, and no cleaning.

Where can I get one of those ramrods and starters. Been looking online but cant find them. Are those spin jags?

They are spinjag tips but the rods are made by a guy named Mac on Doug's Board.

I tried to contact him but it seems as if he no longer makes them. There are a couple of other companies that offer similar products though. I think I am going to attempt to make my own like this one http://dougsmessageboards.proboards.com ... hread=3072

I just been catching up on my reading since hunting season and read this thread. I am real interested in some more info and specifics on your conversion project. For instant who and where is SMI and where did you get your loading data. Thanks if you see this.
