Anyone have any thoughts on when elk shed their antlers in East Tennessee? The piece of private property I hunt has an elk that winters there every year and the property owner would love to get a set of his sheds. He's been very nice to me in regards to letting me hunt his property and I would love to help him find some sheds if at all possible. I walked the property today and found all kinds of fresh-ish rubs and feed sign like you wouldn't believe but no dropped antlers.

Any advice is appreciated.

Here are a couple pics of the rubs I found as well. It's an odd experience waking up to a tree that's been rubbed higher than I stand tall.

That would get a hunters full attention when used to deer rubs only! :shock: I can't imagine having to look up to see the top of a rub.
 
It's pretty cool to see that stuff. Scared the snot out of me when I first saw him on trail cam. Funny thing is once he shows up the whitetails all but disappear. Not sure if he runs them off or if they just change their pattern because of the competition.

I was scouting some property in Dutch Valley and came up on an elk rub. I am 6'3" and it rubbed to around 8- 8 1/2 ft high. Snapped small limbs. Actually rubbed both sides of the tree.

Make sure picking up shed anglers from an elk is legal? Not sure if I may be missing something here but what may be illegal about that?

Pretty much the same way this property is. The runs are much taller than me and branches are snapped off the tree as high as I can reach. Some of the small-ish trees are even snapped in two pieces. Pretty impressive stuff.

Only reason I say that is some folks in NC got busted for picking up elk sheds.

No idea if TN is the same, just don't want to see folks get in trouble.

WV just legalized the collection of shed antlers this year!

I appreciate you saying that and giving me a heads up. I honestly never thought about picking up shed antlers as being illegal. I suppose, if it is illegal, there's some upside to me never being able to find any sheds...whitetail or otherwise.
