Last I heard we had about 300 animals, but that has been awhile.

Inbreeding may be an issue, but with CWD around, it is next to impossible to get more animals. The state cannot even transport them through CWD states even though they caome froma CWD free herd. We can hope for some movement from Kentucky into Tennessee. It has happened in some places already.

Also, the escaped red deer present a hazard because elk and red deer will readily hybridize if they have the opportunity.

I think in Pennsylvania they had their elk herd dip down to less than 20 animals and now it is at 800 animals

They are more adaptable than people think but there would be no tolerance for them.

You could trap and transplant them from Royal Blue all over the state but people would not like it at all.

All elk need is a good field of grass or crops to be happy. Farmers do not like elk eating their hay or crops.

Colorado and other western states compensate farmers for the feed they put out for Elk during winter and crop damage .
