Guy on my lease found this today in a ditch. He said you could smell it from the food plot that was nearby but I was there yesterday and didn't smell anything with wind coming from that area. Anyone else in Fayette couty seeing any abnormal deer deaths? I know I can look for blue tongue, lesions in the mouth, hoof degeneration. It wasn't by any water which I know a lot of ehd cases are found by because of the fever they run. I did find a site that said how they contract it and the gnats aka no seeums have been horrible this year. My dada has had sereval hundred bites from them on his legs before he started drenching himself in deet.
 
Where at in Fayette Co? I found a dead buck between Williston and Ames floating in a lake last week.
 
If there wasn't any water around, it may have not been EHD. I have found a lot of them in the past, but they were always in or next to water.
 
We have had a few scattered reports around the region but have not been able to get a sample for submission to the lab. Even if this deer was not found near water, my first suspicion at this time of year is still EHD but it can't be confirmed without a sample to test.
 
I attended a wildlife conference last week and was quite surprised to find out that many states are experiencing a massive EHD die-off off this year. North Carolina in particular has been extremely hard-hit with estimates of 70% die-off in some areas. The rest of the states are mostly in the north Midwest while most states from Tennessee and south have been spared. As Recurveshooter has said, there have been scattered reports throughout our state however this is typical every year. It is only a matter of time before we get hit like we did in 2007, although it appears this year is not going to be too bad.

I knew about the Midwest outbreak (it is all the talk on the National Talk Forums), but I hadn't heard of the NC outbreak.

What are you hearing about Southern Illinois and Western KY around the Paducah area?
