EHD recovery

For those that have been through a serious EHD outbreak, how long did recovery take? Harvest in Fentress County from bow through Juvenile is down 50%. We already didn't have a lot of deer. Very few hunters are seeing any deer. What worries me is that now we also have bears everywhere ,thanks to TWRA, that
will grab fawns at opportunity so I'm sure that will also slow recovery. Just wondering about any area that's been through such a reduction.

I cant answer that question wish i knew.I'm in the same boat as you are in greene county.last year one of my spots had deer all over.Not this year cant even find a pile of poop.Either the Deer are bad constipated or they ain't around.I'm hoping they will come back my way.And that there all not mostly dead.the deer herd in east tn isnt as big as the farther west you go.So surly cant afford to lose any to disease.then you got coyote,Bear,Car's,disease then hunter's.Good luck to you though maybe something will change for us.

Our warden told us he estimated that mcminn Countys heard took a 60% deduction to EHD. I'm no expert but I find that a bit high. I was thinking more like 35%.

I just looked at morgan county harvest data. From Sept 1 to the first day of muzzy last year we was at 391 kills. Same time this year we are at a whopping 144.. that's a huge drop.

The area I hunt in western Ky never has rebounded from the 2007 outbreak..

I just looked at morgan county harvest data. From Sept 1 to the first day of muzzy last year we was at 391 kills. Same time this year we are at a whopping 144.. that's a huge drop.

I can tell how bad it is over there just from daily drive through. Used to I would see at least half a dozen or more deer every morning in Deer Lodge and have to dodge deer quite often. I rarely even see a deer through there anymore. As bad as I hate it, TWRA is going to have to back off the doe limits severely for these areas. I like shooting does as much as anyone but that's what's needed to at least help rebound some.

I believe it, when we go to jamestown through burrville, you always seen a ton of deer in the evenings, we haven't hardly seen any out through there this summer. As bad as I hate to admit it, I also think twra might wanna look at cutting back the antlerless limits for a year or 2.

Hunters just aren't that responsible as a group. If there's less deer, they'll just start shooting anything they do see, instead of passing some deer. Lot of people here just want meat and aren't willing to travel for it so it'll just make it worse unfortunately. This severe outbreak was well known prior to deer season. If we had proactive deer management in TN, the TWRA would have put emergency provisions into place right then to slow antlerless harvest. TWRA is always reactive though, after there's a problem, exception being the flooding issue some time back in West TN.

I've been limiting my taking of does for probably 10 years or longer. 2 max on the property I'm hunting. And the property 2 miles away I don't the same thing. I don't think our area has had the outbreak this year but I don't think we recovered from the one in 07. Depred permits haven't helped us either.

I have hunted Oak Ridge for the last 2 days and scouted last weekend. I have not seen a single rub, scrape, pile of poo...nothing. Me and my brother spent the better part of yesterday just trying to find a rub. I have walked for several miles.Couldn't find one. Went to the checking station late yesterday afternoon and 17 deer had been killed. A twra guy was at the station and said that he was surprised more had been checked in. He said they upped the doe tags to 3 per hunter, 450 quota on 3 hunts, to control the deer population. I told them there wasn't a deer population, they were all laying dead in Melton Hill. He looked at me like I had 3 heads.

I've heard this about Cheatham too. You can only kill buck during gun season on cheatham

We hunted from 6:30 am till 1:30 pm yesterday in Morgan county on Genesis rd. never heard a shot all day. I bumped two walking to my stand and saw a doe around 7:45 20 yards away. Was getting to warm, and with no shots fired in area; we decided to call it a day. On way home, where we usually see someone hunting or saw that morning on way to property; no one was there. So , I guess 144 is not to bad.

Ok I see hunters wanting to restrict doe take do to EHD but no mention of buck take reduced do to EHD. Doe's need bucks to have babies.

So do you kill 2 bucks or 1 buck this season? I have been bow hunting and now muzzle load. Not seeing anything

Think about that and let it settle in. Then think some more. If one knows anything about reproductive biology in mammals and fish, answer is easy.

Females are born with a finite number of eggs. Most males are born with an infinite number of sperm.

we pay the money to keep this operation going.I am willing to do whatever to increase the population.And to make sure the herd is healthy.I'm not shooting doe's where i am in east tn.I like to kill Deer just as much as the next man.Why are we not hearing any biologic news on EHD. Whatever they need to do to preserve the herd do it. I would rather have a fast rebound versus a long one or not one at all.

I heard 1 shot all day Saturday in Sunbright. I had 2 spots with good acorns and poo. I haven't seen a deer on my lease in a month. I've done as many all day sits as possible. Yesterday I saw no rubs or scrapes.
