biting midges, aka no-see-ums are everywhere, some areas there are a lot more than others. Like mosquitoes, they can reproduce in very small amounts of water so they don't even need a creek or pond to thrive.
What I learned from Daryl (BigGameGuy) is that EHD outbreaks are basically a natural cycle in the deer world... the survivors of an outbreak have a genetic immunity or resistance to the disease, so as they repopulate, the herd will have more resistance to EHD allowing the population to rebound and thrive for years. But over time, the genetic resistance will decrease in the herd due to a very diverse gene pool in wild deer populations, and eventually they will have another outbreak.
