To keep from high jacking another thread. I remeber my first "wild animal" I killed. I can still hear papaws voice "Now Erik if the off chance you hit that mocking bird you gonna have to eat it." At 5 I learned that Papaw wasn't kidding and Mocking birds have tiny drumsticks.

He was attempting to discourage me from shooting at it. Best dang shot of a red rider I ever made. I never shot another song bird again haha I swear.
 
I probably shouldn't say this here, but since you did, whatever....

My first wild animal kill ever was with a blowgun and was also a mockingbird. Yes I seasoned and cooked it, but it was tough and I didn't eat all of it. :D it was my choice to eat it, since I already knew the concept of eating what you kill, just hadn't quite learned the concept of hunting seasons and federally protected birds.
