The first couple weekends of bow season is one of my favorites. Even though the heat and mosquitos can be tough at times, I have Thermacell and early season clothing to make it comfortable.

Who loves bow hunting in September? I know I do.

Count me out, UTGrad. Too dang hot, too many skeeters, and way too much risk of blowing my chance at a good'ern before the season even gets going good. I get up a tree...but it ain't like I love it. :)

A lot of people say they don't hunt during bow season because it hinders their chance of getting a mature buck. They believe this because it is harder to kill a mature buck in bow season, and it adds too much pressure. IMO, that is just an excuse to not have to deal with the heat and bugs. Bow hunting increases you chances of getting a mature buck by a lot. All you need to do is have areas you only hunt in bow season.

If you're lucky enough to have enough land that you can bow hunt certain areas and still leave other areas unmolested for when muzzy and gun arrive, then obviously you are not pressuring your gun areas. I'm afraid most people don't have that luxury.

For a long time I would have started bow hunting in July if they opened the season because I just could not wait to get out there. The older I get the more I tend to agree with Boll.

You've got 100,000 or better acres to pick from just here in west TN.

I do! Got some stands to put up and some tree trimming to do! Some good bucks will still be hitting the fields where Im at for the first week or so. Then bye.. bye...

I love early, mid and late season bow hunting deer.

The trouble i have with early season? They feed in the beans and usually bed in the beans. If they move out of the beans they dont go far.

Water holes,at one time were a good early season set up.Now alot of the fields are irragated and water holes everywhere.

Most of the time i set up on a funnel and maybe someone else will run one to me.

Cannt remember the last buck i shot in September.
Of course, i dont remember alot. :)

I love it. Can't wait to wake up to early on opening morning, climb a tree way to early, and sit in total darkness for 45 min. Then have the wind change at sunrise. But I'll do it anyways! I love early bow season!

Man, I friggin love early season!! Especially if we get lucky and a cold front comes through. Find some honey locust pods or set up over a mineral lick after a rain while those bucks are still relaxed and in their summer patterns. One of my favorite times for sure!

I enjoy hunting early season, when I can - I like the fact that the deer in my area are fairly easy to pattern early season around food sources, and they haven't gotten as skittish as they will be later on into gun season.

I also enjoy late season rifle hunting - nothing like sitting over a few acres of standing corn that has some of it bushhogged that no one has hunted until mid December. The deer consider it safe since there has been no pressure all season, and the corn is a huge draw that late in the year :)

The 1st 2 weeks of bow season is a great time to harvest some does and get out there! I couldn't imagine waiting around till November to hunt. That being said I've never killed a really good buck early season but love putting some does in the freezer.

Same here, but I'm often more excited about hunting squirrels cutting hickory nuts during the early deer archery season. :D I like to hunt lots of things, but enjoy deer hunting more as the timing gets closer to the rut. It's all about TIMING and BALANCE.

I do some early archery deer hunting, just don't want to do too much at the expense of hunting other game, scouting, etc. Early archery season is a great time to "patrol" one's property, scout, run trail cams, and generally prepare for what I consider the "Main Event" (the pre-rut thru rut period beginning sometime in late October). For me, this balance of activities is a part of my deer hunting, and spending too much time on a stand too soon can be akin to getting the cart ahead of the horse.

Just in terms of my personal enjoyment while actually hunting, I generally wouldn't swap one day in late October for a whole week in late September. Fortunately, we can do some of both, but there's much about late October that's more exciting.

Anyone else ever hunted so much (like every day) during the early archery season that you were somewhat "burned out" (tired of sitting on stands) by the time you should be sitting on a stand all day as the rut is beginning? Not only has that happened to me many times, but I also many times used up my vacation time during the early archery season, costing me better hunting days in late October and November.

But I do enjoy some early archery deer hunting, the operative word being "some", and mainly when the weather happens to be seasonally cool or raining (not storming, just raining). Typical late September weather, I'd typically rather be fishing.

Exactly. Rain and a cold front, sit on stand, typical hot September weather, go fishing.
