early season calling

if any what is everyone using for early Season calls.

Nothing. Too early in my opinion.

Play the wind and just stay quiet

Back when I bowhunted I killed several does and small bucks with just a simple grunt tube.
Grunt once or twice every 30 minutes or so.

Watched several that were out of range and just one grunt and they would turn and come in. I assume to see who was around.
Others were apparently stone deaf. LOL

I did a short grunt at some bucks 50 yds away to see their reaction. Not one of them even stopped chewing. Could care less.

Maybe that says a lot about my calling ability.

Always had better luck calling during bow season. I have had a few bucks come to rattling this time of year.

Any time bucks are in hard horns they will respond to rattling.

A fawn in distress call can bring in older does and coyotes, making for a fun hunt and plenty of shooting opportunities if things work out.

This is exactly my experience. Light rubbing of antlers, not clashing yet, and single short grunts on occasion seem to work well early season. I've also killed several coyotes that came sneaking in to the light rattling.

This sneaky sucker came in QUICK to a rattling sequence. Wasn't the buck I was hoping for but I didn't mind feeding him an arrow!
