I got a text Sunday morning right at legal hour (5:59) from my daughter that "big boy" was headed my way. Turned out that he had stood under her stand for 3 - 4 minutes about 7 minutes before legal before deciding to move on. She had one chance at him right at legal but he was about 125 yards and in the dark she couldn't clearly make out the kill zone so she decided to pass and text me.
I was sitting on a different field about 400 yards from her. About 5 min later he appears about 140 yards -- it's still dark, I can tell it's a stout body with big neck, can't see the horns. He surveys the field for a few minutes then puts his head down. I grunt and he starts looking around again. Finally he starts moving and I give him 3 soft grunts and then he starts angling in front of me. I decide to let him come as close as he will and just track him with the cross hairs -- he's well outside the ears. I'm shaking the 2 - 3 minutes it takes him to walk in -- haven't gotten that stirred up on a buck in awhile. At about 5 yards he spots me and freezes, a little steeper angle than I hoped for but bam! He runs about 60 yards and falls to the ground. 6:07 text my daughter that I got him and thank you for the heads up.
