Anyone know why a deer would have an ear tag? My brother in law got a picture of one this morning with an ear tag. It was an 8 point so no confusion of it being a farm animal. It had the number 19 in it I believe. I assume it is for research but don't know who would be doing the research.

Most likely a "pet" I've seen and heard of people doing it with fawns of course they grow up. Could be some kind of research but most of those have collars.

I've know people to kill deer with collars. Usually raised as pets. Ear tag the same, probably raised by a cattle farmer.

Most likely a high fence deer. There have been one maybe 2 killed pretty close to where we hunt and thats what they were. Tree fell on the fence and they escaped.
