I think I am going to try to plant 2 different 5 acre fields with eagle seed soybeans. Our farm is about 450 acres; 200 acres is big hardwood ridges, about 120 acres are in a tree program that are about 7 years old, about 30 acres is flooded for ducks, 30 or 40 acres in erosion or quail unlimited progams and we usually plant 20 acres in food plots (ie. clover, wheat and oats, and brassica) . My question is with this extra 10 acres of beans am I going to need some type deer deterrent so the beans can grow to maturity?

Depends on your deer pressure and density.
I would think that would be an awesome addition and 10 acres would be plenty.

You should be fine with 10 acres. From what I remember, I believe Eagle soybeans run about $80 a bag and I believe they do 1 acre a piece, if I remember correctly.

Don't forget that shipping charge! My local coop doesn't keep them stocked, but some do.
Last year it ran about $25 bucks a bag shipped to your door.

Side note, I was talking to my seed rep. At coop yesterday and old style conventional soybeans were $27 per 50 & RR beans starting at $55 per 50.
It sounds like the Eagles are priced high, but for the ease of weed control, and their resilience they are worth it.

What jmb4wd said. They are worth it. Brad Doyle w/eagle told me this morning, get a box of your wife's dryer sheets and spread around and in the field after planting, it will keep them out long enough to let them get up out of the ground and get a head start, before the deer get used to the smell and start eating on them. Two strands electric fence 4 ft apart wil do the trick better but that's a lot of fence on ten acres..Also we broadcast rather than dril and put corn in also (10 beans per foot 2 corn) Nice straight rows enable them to walk down the middle and eat them little plant like you wouldn't,t believe!

Get you an agricultural tax exemption card. I qualified for one just because of having land in Greenbelt and having orchards.

The difference in eagle beans is amazing. Once a deer browses on them it doesn't stop the growth but they "branch" of and continue to grow.
