Looked healthy, most were about 5 ft. Trunk were a little smaller than expected but these are the first I've bought so I have nothing to compare.

I got all of mine planted from rock bridge trees and two of mine from ts-13 are up and about four inches tall

Will you be able to regularly water them during the summer? If not, I would consider keeping them in a Rootmaker or similar pot until next fall.

I keep mine all at the house until fall... Just because I cannot get to the farm to water.

They were that price last year. Advice? Well I bought (9) last year and got lazy on (3) of them and didn't fence around them. (2) feel victim to browsing and the other one is barely hanging on. They'll all need pruned this winter; I just googled the recommendations for pruning chestnut trees and pruned mine in February.

Keep them watered real good this first year.I put cages around mine that really helps alot

. Not a great price, i bought them for $15 each at rock fence nursery .

These will be planted on my "new" property about 5 miles from my house. I'll have to carry water there but that shouldn't be a big issue. Was planning to enclose them with woven wire cages already. How much to water? Was figuring five gallons per tree per watering about once a week during dry spells. Will that be adequate? They will be planted along a wet weather branch that is relatively "rich" well drained soil for east TN. This tree thing is new to me so I'm open to advice.

Personally, unless we have a drought I wouldn't fool with watering them and it has never bit me in the butt. I bet 80% of the fruit trees I have planted have been in July and other than when I planted them I never watered a tree in my life. Some might say I've just been lucky but I don't think so. I guess if you're just bored and its convenient go for it. Good excuse to get away for a bit .

I'd say it depends on your soil type and location. On my upland ridges, the water table is 8' - 12' below the surface. I've dug holes in April and returned later to find standing water. I didn't find water when I dug 32" holes on the same ridge during July. My new spring planted trees in this area look poor without being watered in late July - September. The established trees (planted previous fall or earlier) don't seem to need watering.

Of course, this example is my place in Carroll County. Watering trees in bottom land areas bring different considerations.

Blount Arrow could be correct, but "if" I planted this late in the season, I would plan on monitoring closely and being prepared to water during each visit.

I bought 8 at the Jackson Wal Mart, they got the shipment in a little late, and I got em for $15 a piece, half price. nice looking trees from Realtree.

$15 is a good price... Does Walmart give a 1-year survival warranty on their trees?

Yes, or they did last yr.
