Dumb question

The duck stamp!!!! Is this something you can obtain at the post office? Or do you have to get it at a license place?
P.s. I know I know season is over now but I'm just curious

It's an actual stamp? The reason I'm curious is because I have had the duck stamp added to my sportsman license but never actually had any kind of "stamp"

The migratory bird permit that is added to the sportsmans license is a state "stamp" to hunt all migratory birds.

The Federal Duck Stamp which is needed to hunt waterfowl is an actual stamp separate from the permit added to the sportsmans license. It can be purchased at a Post Office and most places that sell license have them too.

And just as an added thing, Duck Stamp is usually not available until August at the earliest, whether you get it at the Post Office or Wal-mart, or any other license agent. It is going up to $25 this year from $15 last year.

Also, there is a state duck stamp, but it is strictly a collectable, not required to hunt with.

On a lot of years, the Post Offices sell out of the federal duck stamp very quickly, and retail vendors carrying them are hit and miss. It can be difficult to find one if a hunt possiblity comes up all of a sudden.

But, fortunately, there is now a way to get around that problem. There are several (6-8) states that sell the stamp on their electronic license system. The list is on the US Fish and Wildlife site as a pilot duck stamp program. I am 99% sure that Arkansas is one of the states. You can purchase the stamp online, and document the sale by printing off the transaction page. In TN, a screen shot of the transaction page would be valid as well, but I can't speak to other states and their policy on that. Hopefully TN will add to that pilot program list at some point, but they are not in that program right now.

Anyway, the state will then mail you the stamp, but you are legal to hunt as soon as you make and document the transaction. It is valid for 45 days to give time for your order to be fulfilled.

The downside to such a transaction is that there is normally a surcharge for using a credit card to make the purchase, but not having to take the time and gas to hunt one down offsets that pretty good.

That depends on the state. Arkansas, you've got to have the federal and their state duck stamp to hunt.

If you have the Sportsman or Lifetime license the Federal duck stamp is the only other thing you have to buy.
