THE OFFICIALS reviewed this play over and over ,then said the Miami player wasn't down when he pitched the ball off.

Then a player came from the sideline and on to the field carrying his helmet ,before the Miami player crossed the goal.

Duke got robbed.

The refs reviewed it and still got it wrong.
His knee was clearly down and you can't review a block in the back.
Miami also had to many men on the field one without a helmet.

Worst screw job I've seen since ND was screwed at FSU last season.

Just a shameful display of incompetence by the refs and the replay crew. That crew of officials should be thoroughly embarrassed. What a total joke.

Tainted win by the 'Canes. Duke won the game.

Bad calls both ways. Did you happen to see the horrendous PI calls against Miami on the almost game winning drive? Crickets..........

Bad/questionable calls are part of the game. If a team is up by enough points bad/questionable calls don't matter. Blaming the refs is just an excuse.

Agree but watching the highlight of that Miami game was beyond bad. There were multiple blocks in the back, players knee was down, I thought one of the laterals looked questionable as to whether it was a forward lateral. I feel bad for duke and their players

Did not see the game, but I'm with BamaProud on this one.

I'm not sure why anyone would feel compelled to opine on this when they haven't even seen the play. :?

A knee down, at least 2 and possibly 3 obvious blocks in the back, a 12th player running onto the field without his helmet on while the play is underway.....all of this on the same play and the refs missed it all.

The refs are there to, among other things, uphold the integrity of the game. They, along with the replay booth, failed miserably in one of their core duties in this game. No team should have to lose because of such complete and utter incompetence by paid officials.

I did not opine on the game. I agree with BamaProud that you can't blame the refs for a loss. I'm sure there were other plays not made by Duke that would have rendered the refs irrelevant to the outcome.

In tight games, the correct calls do matter. Not an excuse, a fact. The kids will make mistakes but a paid professional ref with video review should right a blown call.

Sure you can, especially given the control the officials have over the game. The saying about not blaming the refs is just a goofy cliche.

When you come back from 12 points down in the 4th quarter and score the go-ahead touchdown with 6 seconds left on the clock and the officials miss multiple calls on the ensuing kickoff return as time expires, you should absolutely blame the refs for a loss.

Thankfully, the incompetent crew got suspended by the ACC, which has admitted that Duke should have won the game.

Refs have to make judgement calls...humans are imperfect. You can nitpick every play, holding calls are particularly subjective, the precise place the ball is spotted on every down can make a big difference in over the course of a game. This case is a particularly bad case of a bad call...I admit that. However, things like this happen every weekend.

I still maintain, if a bad call/a no call, a bad spot of the football etc...it the difference in winning or losing a game, your team didn't do a very good job for the other 59 minutes 50 seconds of the game to set themselves up for a win. If Duke was up by 21 points instead of just 3, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Loosers blame the refs or other factors for loses...winners don't have too.

There was a flag for blocking in back, which is non reviewable. They had 9 minutes to see the players knee was on the ground, Then they pick up the flag of blocking in the back which the replay clearly showed. The refs should never work a game again and give Duke the win. It was totally on the refs, how can you win with those refs against you????

It was a terrible call, and perhaps they should lost their jobs...that is for the ACC to decide. You win that game the way you win any game. By putting your team in a situation where a bad/missed call doesn't cost them the game. Again, if Duke was up by 21 points instead of just 3 we may still have had a bad call/nocall but the outcome would be different. That is the teams fault, not the refs.

Bamaproud, I understand them missing split second judgement calls.

BUT when they take there time, and look at replays AND still miss calls???? That's easy to see??? Something is odd about that.

I looked at the replay 1 time on ESPN and seen the guys Knee was down?? Why could the fefs not do that?

Glad that crew got suspended HORRIBLE job calling that game.

It was not a bad call, It was bad CALLS like 5 lol.

I agree if Duke would have just made a tackle the game would have ended. O wait they did refs just didn't call it :poke: even after looking at the replay.

He had his Team in position to win that game, Heck he won the game lol.

And everyone that watched 1 single replay of that play knew Duke won the game! Besides the refs it's there job to make the correct calls! That is what REPLAY is for!!! It was not hard to see?

Guess Duke should have just been up by 14pts??

Just to be sure I'm clear. Let's take the Tennessee Alabama game this year. Had the Refs awarded Tennessee two of the the three field goals they obviously missed and 'Bama loses the game by one, you'd be cool with that?

Or better yet, on the "kick six" game with Auburn a few years ago, had there been a flag for a block in the back on Auburn, but yet the refs ended up picking up the flag, even though on replay it was clear, he wouldn't say a word and just accept it ;) :D !

You play the game with rules. They are there for a reason (people CHEAT if no rules). The refs are responsible for enforcing the rules to ensure fair play. If you have ever played any sport at any competitive level (pretty clear that some have not), you want to compete on a level playing field. In a game with fairly even teams, one call can be the difference in winning and losing.

A blown call of this magnitude is inexcusable, and Duke should be awarded the W!
