duck gun

Went on a duck hunt last year and looks like I'll be doing so again this year so I'm thinking about buying a gun for it. I want a semi auto but other than that I'm open. The cheaper the better as it will probably only get used once a year so what are some I should look at. Not opposed to used either.

I know you said a semi auto but for the money and the fact your only gonna use it a few times a year, it is hard to beat the ol' tried n true Remmy 870 !
Remington also makes the 1187 which is an auto and been around for a long time. Not sure about the newer versions like the 887 or whatever they are now days.

Personally I shoot a Winchester SX3 and a Browning Silver but they are not on the cheaper side....my moto, you get what you pay for !

For the money stoeger m3500 is hard to beat. Ive put probably close to 2,000 shells down the barrel and no problems

I love my SX3, but you may pop across a deal on an older 1100 that only shoots 2 3/4 loads. Up side to those too is the shells are cheaper, downside is you gotta get the birds closer.

870 pump or benelli nova pump will be best bang for your Buck if your only going a couple of times a year. Other wise get a Super Black Eagle 2 :)

Thanks all. I've got an 870 but its set up as a dedicated turkey gun so that's out. Really don't want a pump so I'll check out the 1187 and stoegers. SX3 is probably gonna be way more than I want to spend. Worst case is I'll borrow one again this year.

Heard a lot of good things about these guns. Have you dove hunted with it? Any issues cycling light loads?

Honestly out of the box it wouldn't cycle the light loads but I got a couple boxes of 3 1/3 loads and found a small sapling tree that would give some and just ran two boxes of 3 1/2 down the barrel and after that ive had no problems and I hunt turkey, dove, and ducks with it and also skeet shoot with it and if it got stolen tomorrow id buy another one without a doubt

i wouldnt trade my stoeger m3000 for anything, use it for all flying shootables!! i like to think of it as the blue collar duck gun. harworking, rough, tough, takes alot of abuse and keeps on cranking out the loads....

I have the SPR 453. It's been a great gun. I highly recommend it.

I bought an X2 when they came out and got a new X3 about 6 years ago.These are great guns and you can break them down and put back together blindfolded for cleaning.I see good used X2's all the time for around 500.

Don't know about the new ones, but the old Browning A5 Mag is hard to beat. Does what it is supposed to every time you pull the trigger, no matter what. The end

A Browning/FN conglomeration owns Winchester now. When you register the warranty on an SX3, you get a message saying thankyou for registering your borwning firearm. They are making a lot of the SX3s at the FN plant in Herstal, Belgium as well. So when you get one of these, you wind up with a Belgian made Browning that shoots 3 1/2 inch shells and has a Winchester name on it. What's not to like about that combo.

The SXP is made at a Turkish plant and the quality is not as good as on the semis.

Love my 1187 but I may buy a stoeger after all the good I have heard about them over the past few years.
