What are y'all's thoughts on duck calls (e.g. preferred brand, go-to call, different species on your lanyard, etc.)?

Personally, I don't have a lot of experience with a bunch of brands. I just have a couple that I bought when I started that I have stuck with. I am asking to see if I need to branch out.
 
One of my best friends bought me a Haydel DR85 last year.
I am still learning and have a VERY long way to go, but from what I have seen that is pretty much all a man really needs.
 
I have a DR85, a DR88, and a metal reed Reelfoot call. Got a couple others, but those are the ones I use most. For geese, I have a Zincs power clucker.
 
buck gardner double nasty is just a good all around call, easy for beginner to learn on and I know a few very experienced callers that know how to work ducks and that's all they use.. Only about $25 too
 
Cabelas has a short barrel black out edition made by Rich n Tone on clearance for $75 and free shipping through 12/17. IF you are looking to get into acrylic calls it's a good opportunity. Usually retail for $129. At that price they will probably go quick. It's a good all around singe reed call. I know people think it's crazy to pay that much for a duck call but I have 1 Rich n Tone and 1 Echo call from the mid 80's that are worth 10x what I paid for them.

To me, duck calls are like Whiskey. there are alot of cheap ones out there that will certainly get the job done. But once you find that one that cost a little more money than you are comfortbale spending, and it fits you just right, you'll never go back to the cheap ones.

I will not bash a person who blows a Haydel. I've been in a blind multiple times where we killed over 100 in a day and most of the older guys were blowing em.

I myself love a JJ Lares, and will always have em on my lanyard. They are a work of art. There is no tuning involved (kind of) and they sound incredible.

I've got an Xciter half pint and an xciter speck call.

I like them. I also use echo calls

I have 2 on my lanyard....Echo XLT Timber Acrylic and Cache River Duckall Cocobolo
 
I can't blow them well enough to tell the difference in a $15 call and a $100 call.

I've only been duck hunting a few times, but I spend time trying to learn to blow them.. and I just can't get the hang of it. I try to blow from my gut like a lot of people say, but it just sounds like I'm blowing with my cheeks. It's more of a high pitched sound than a rumbly sort of quack. It drives me nuts - I hate not being able to do that sort of stuff. I'm not good with mouth calls for turkeys either.
