Dropped a squirrel today

Just hunting with a friend with our air rifles for squirrels. Why a shotgun when you can use a scoped airgun that will make a clean kill (if you're accurate) without putting a lot of shot into the meat?

I got the squirrel sitting out on the back porch and it's freezing out, going down to 25 tonight....would you say the meat will still be good in the morning? I only want the leg meat. I'll cut off all the good meat and marinate it in a basic salt/pepper water for a couple days in the fridge.

It's fun to go take a squirrel sometimes. Actually I've only killed small game since I started hunting. That's going to change this spring when the gobblers are strutting though....

why use a scoped air rifle when you can use a 3 1/2" #2 shock & awe??

Hunt'n squirrels is a time honored part of life in the south, its a great way to spend time in the woods, man I love it.

Mostly I use my trusty .22 but have beeen think'n hard about a good air gun, when I was a kid my Daisy bb gun went wher ever I did then got a Crossman pnuematic(pump) pellet rifle then when I was ateenager I gave it to the kid next door to finish wear'n it out, hunt'n with a air gun would be a time machine.

Yeah it sure is fun...I have a crosman recruit which is a step up from the best selling pumpmaster...I want one of those Crosman or Gamo break barrels though for a better air gun and a .22 for when I'm farther away from the city.

why not. there is nothin like it . . . . .

For most, it is in conflict with deer season, whether real or perceived. Many of us seem to feel some sort of "obilgation" to hunt deer so long as deer season is open.

Conflict or not, many hunters seem to drain their energy and enthusiasm for hunting anything, having used it all on deer hunting.

Good post wes. U hit the nail on the head. I used to be that way as well. If deer season was open, I had to hunt it. It became like a job. I would not hunt any other game if deer was open nor would I engage in any other hobbies. It was my life. I am so glad I got past that point. I still love to deer hunt, but will not go for the sake of going, odds have to be in my favor to harvest the deer I want.
