Anyone know of documentation out there that gives the amount of seed needed per acre when drilling? I was going to do an oat and winter pea mix and was wondering how much seed I needed to buy per acre. Thanks.

Most likely you will need to drill twice. Once for the oats and once for the peas.

Seed Drill,
Over top of our clover fields, we seed drill in 30lbs per acre of winter wheat and about five lbs of peas. We mix in the peas with the wheat. ( large bin ) In the small bin we put 5lbs of DER per acre.
This has worked well for us. WE usually do this for about 60 acres. Our food plots are scattered thought out our property. Our largest is about 4 acres in size, most are one acre or less.
If you want more wheat put 50 lbs per acre which will be alot if you seed drill in the seed.
We have done this for 10 years. If you want to see the results, look at the pictures String music keeps posting.

Thanks Terry. I assume to use this same rate per acre in fields where I have nothing currently planted.
I have not thought about drilling my clover patches. I am definitely going to give that a stab.

Grant Woods gave us this formula ten years ago and it has worked for us. Our property is strip mine area in the Cumberland Mountains.
Our plots are food plots. However they draw deer in the fall with the winter wheat, peas, and DER.

Well, just swung by the seed store and made the investment. 200 lbs buck forage oats at $30/bag, 30 lbs DER at $3.50/lb, and 30 lbs Austrian Peas at $2.25/lb. Time to get to work!

I know the Buck forage Oats are alot higher, but i planted mine Aug 27 and they were up within a week with no rain. Rained on the plot last week and now everything is up. Planted the oats with clover and winter peas. The deer are already hitting the oats pretty hard. Wont be long when all the beans are dried down and i wont be able to keep them out of there.
