drill and tap?

What should I expect to pay to have two holes drilled and tapped on a 870? Called a local gunsmith today and was quoted $60. Is this a fair price?

Probably what is the going price.
Fair is a relative term.
I used to do 8-10 a year (4 holes each) on muzzleloader barrels each year.

After the mill is indicated good it takes about 30 minutes to do.
I will admit, hand tapping 4 blind holes is rather nerve racking when it ain't your barrel.

the last ones I tapped were $10 a hole.. I quit doing it.. those little taps break like a stick of peppermint and I used to get as nervous as a long tailed cat when tapping a barrel.. break one off in a gun and it aint going to be pretty...

I paid $15 per hole a couple of years ago. $30 sounds quite high.

Na, best part about a blind hole is they never see you coming lol.

$60 sounds about right. He's charging for an hour of labor. And it will take every bit of an hour if he does it right.

What gunsmith did you call? Thats what franklin gun shop quoted me a few years back. Jeff at guns and leather did it for $15 a hole. He did a great job. Again, this was a few years back. Call around some more.

Ended up having my gun drilled and tapped at Lebanon gun shop for $20. Gunsmith did a good job. Im very blessed!

I need a Rem 700 PSS drilled and tapped for a front sight block and the side of the action tapped for a Redfield sight base like is on a 40X or Win 52B,next time I am in Lebanon I will see what he says,,
