Drag Lines????

I am about to give up on drag lines! I have used Tinks 69 for years; Code Red, Code Blue and an couple other "the best estrous liquid on the market..." and can't say that I have ever had a buck come in on a string to it. I did spook a nice 8 pointer one time when he caught a whiff of the Tinks 69 I had hung on a tree. He got parallel/down wind of it and literally jumped, froze and then headed for the hills.

Any of you guys had any goo fortune with drag lines and if so, what product are you using and how are you putting it out?

I have killed several deer using tinks 69 and a drag line but only when i have to walk a long ways through the woods.
Seems like it doesn't work as good if i just go to a close stand

I have walked as short as 400 yards to 1,000 or more. Are you refreshing it along the way or just putting it on the rag one time? I refresh it 2-3 times on the way.

What makes you think when they come across your drag line, they don't follow it the wrong way, ??

I have never had any luck messing with any of the deer scents they make and I have tried quit a few of them. Oddly enough the only thing I have ever had deer mess with is real vanilla liquid that I poured in one of the orange Tink bomb bottles. I guess it was out of curiosity but I had a bunch of them walk straight to it and try to lick the wick piece when they smelled it.

Ha...I have several of those Tink bottles that came with 69. Maybe I will try that instead. I am beginning to think that the more scents that I add to the woods the more I spook deer. If the estrous scent attracted bucks I would continue to use it. Just haven't had any luck with it and I have tried it for many years. Might just be a waste of money.

I've never had luck with it. I still try it every year hoping one day it will work.

Over the years I've tried all kinds of scent and used all kinds of scent dispensers. I've had some success but not really enough to fool with it any more. With the exception of a couple of bucks every deer I've had respond to scents has been a young deer. Think about this...the scent on a drag line gets weaker the closer you get to your stand. To lay down a scent the correct way you really need at your stand and head away from it. That way the stronger scent is approaching you and not going away. I've had them not pay any attention to it, blow out of the country, and put their nose to the ground and follow it in to my stand like a dog on a hot trail. Now when I do use it it's only in the rut and with an estrus scent. I may or may not use a drag and before getting to my stand I hang it in an appropriate spot. The last time I used it it ended up being out of sight from my stand and a buck stood there below it grunting and almost bellowing. I never got a shot.

I just use the spray cans on stand now vs the drags and scent bombs. The spray cans are cleaner and easier. Just spray a few spots while walking in and then a few sprays about every 30 minutes on stand.

Kind of my thinking as well.

It's "strongest" where you put it on, and weakens the further you walk.

So, using the above theory, if you don't refresh it, and he crosses your path, he goes back to your truck where it was applied to the drag line. If you do refresh it midpoint, then he stays right there and lays down or tries to dig her out of the leaves :D !

I'm hearing more and more that CWD can be spread by deer pee. But then again, how do you know what you are buying is deer pee?

Unless you lay a pan under a hot doe and get the urine fresh, you're not going to have much luck with it. Ever seen what happens to a pee bottle after a few days? The same thing happens to the "Deer urine". Young bucks may investigate it but anything with a season or 2 under its belt has smelled every scent there is from all the orange elmers and can tell the difference
