DPMS L308 ?

Ok I was talking to a friend of mine about my new toy and mounting a scope.

He has a "black gun" as well and he said the only thing he didn't like was when you mount a scope on it he has trouble getting hold of the "charging handle" and pulling it back.

Has anyone had any trouble getting enough adjustment out of their scope on these types of rifles when you use higher mounts than you would normally use ?

I had already thought about needing to mount the scope a little higher than normal so that the front sight of the rifle wouldn't be in my way when looking through the scope, since it won't come off without some major work apparently.

Also, what would be the best ring / mount combination for the rifle anyway ?

you have to mount it high ,,if you dont when you shoulder the rifle you will be lookin over the top of the scope.

the center of the scope is supposed to be the exact hight as the center of the peep sight on the handle.

I don't have any problems pulling the charging handle. Just mount the scope forward on the rail.

The best mounts are made by LaRue. They are pricey. I can't justify $250 to $350 for mounts.

I'm a huge fan of the Burris P.E.P.R. mounts. I really like them alot. I like the rail on the front and rear ring to mount a red dot site or a laser for up close encounters. Here is a pic of my LR-308AP4 with the Burris P.E.P.R. mounts. You can see there is no obstruction for pulling the charging handle.

where do u get the pepr mounts and about how much do they cost?

I got them from SWFA. Depending on where you get them, they range from $59 to $89.

If it does pose a problem, you can install an extended latch on your charging handle. It's very easy to do.
