DP Trap Question!

I'm gonna buy some traps to catch a bunch of egg eating racoons, what do you all use to stake the traps?

You can get rebar stakes, drivable spikes, or wrap it close to a tree with cable.

I use cable and wrap around a tree if available. If no tree I use earth anchors.

I've had several pull out when they could get a hold of something like a tree, or roots.. so I always stake mine with a 1/2" dia 18" long rebar stake.. away from anything they can pull on..

Check them early. Letting em go will lots of times, not always result in chewing their foot off

Beat me to it. Trees=leverage

Take 3/32 cable. Make a small loop in one end. Make a loop in the other end large enough to pass the trap through. Put the cable through the swivel on the trap. Pass the large loop through the small loop. . Wrap the cable around a tree and pass the trap through the big loop. It will hold them and it is easy to move the trap. Have a few different length cables to use on different size trees.

This exactly. Best way to go. Get these pictured here to crimp the loops and I just use a hammer to crimp (I can't remember the size our cables and crimps are).

BUT I'd make sure there aren't ANY greenbrier or roots or other small saplings they can grab on to to help them leverage and pull out. Also make sure the tree diameter is 3"+ and not dead

Similar to this. 5' is a little excessive to me. Mine are 3-4'

I use heavy weight wire and wrap it around a tree . Also the z traps are push pull trigger and work great.

I use the cable around a tree. Its just easier than driving stakes in the ground. Of the three brands i have i prefer the Bridger T3. I usually check my traps at first light.
